Pu'u Ma'eli'eli Trail

2.3 miles   600ft elevation   Out & Back Trail
AllTrails lists it as Moderate

This hike is also called "Kaneohe Pillbox".  It is a long steady incline all the way, but not too tough, on the windward side of Oahu. The trail was a little muddy and slippery in places. The hike begins in the trees right off the highway, with views of Kaneohe Bay along the way and ends at a pillbox with a gorgeous 180 degree view of the bay.  You also get a good view of the Marine base on the other side.

You can park in the lot behind McDonalds.  There are several stores if you forgot something

Its right across the street from this huge Memorial Park

You have to walk back down the highway just a little to the trailhead

Here it is

What would a trail be here without roots!

A nice rope to help you uphill if you need it

The first peek out of the trees

A nice uphill stretch here

And another nice peek out of the trees

Just a little obstacle to get around!

..... and of course, more roots

Hang a right here

Hope your flexible here!

Another nice viewpoint along the way

Gets a little thick in through here......

.... and another obstacle in the way

Going up, with a rope if you need it

Almost there!

Made it!  One of few trails that have a sign showing the finish

There's the Pillbox

Going down inside

The view they saw during the war

A beautiful day and a gorgeous view

A couple selfies and its time to head back!
